Area groups take flagging course

A number of local emergency organizations and road recovery groups came together recently to certify themselves in the trade of flagging, as well as PennDOT's requirements. Among those attending are, l-r, Quakake Fire Police Captain Matthew Moyer, instructor Ronnie Bowman and Tamaqua Fire Police Captain Bob Schlorf. Flaggers, also known as traffic guards, are employed on highways and expressways and are trained to set up warning signs and barricades to slow down the speed of traffic in a temporary traffic control zone. Participating in the class, held at Hope's Towing Garage in Hometown, were towing staff and volunteers from the Tamaqua Fire Police, Quakake Fire Police and others.
