Costly program

Operating the Childlren and Youth Services Agency of Schuylkill County for the fiscal year from July 1, 2012, to June 30 cost $7,853,390 according to the report presented to the county commissioners.The major contributor was the state, $5,115,848; Schuylkill County, $1,610,228; federal government, $951,330; and from grants, $175,894.The total child case loads number 1,648 and family case loads 930. During the year there were placements of 181 juveniels into institutions.The reasons for placements were, child uncontrolled with emotional problems, child abuse, delinquency, inadequate housing, and failure to provide basic needs, child's drug and alcohol problem, lack of supervision by parents, drug and alcohol problems of parents, child's mental health problems, parents mental health problems, and runaways.The average daily cost for providing services for the delinquent chilldren was $117.92 and during the last two quarter periods the agency had purchased 34,420 days of services.Granted divorceJosephT. They were married April 7, 2006.Katrina Marie Lucas, Pine Grove, was granted a divorce from Darryl Wayne Lucas Jr., Tremont. They were married June 14, 2009.Patricia C. Bennett was granted a divorce from Richard A. Bennett Jr., both of Shenandoah. They were married June 21, 2010.Treasurer's reportCounty Treasurer Jacqueline McGoven reported on the county's financial dealings for the month of June.The beginning balance of all accounts was $52,568,112.59; deposits, $22,842,457.43; disbursements, $12,120,160.88 and ending balance, $63,290,409.14.The expenditures in the general fund for the month was deposits,$14,31,244.83 and disbursements, $3,200,228.212 leaving a balance at the end of the month at $28,279,410.79. Taxes received were, $3,231,937.58 in real estate and $111,288.50 in per capita tax.Other revenues received was $2,160 for small games of chance licenses, $115 for bingo licenses; $1,893.85 for dog licenses; $61,859.91 from fees paid to the eight magisterial district judges; $56,647.17 from tariff on telephones used to fund 9-1-1 Center; and $18,176.79 in hotel tax.
