Bill on school safety nears state passage

State Sen. John Yudichak on Wednesday hailed the unanimous Senate concurrence vote on legislation that authorizes the Office of Safe Schools to award targeted grants to address school violence and enhance school safety in Pennsylvania.

"The safety of our children is a paramount concern of all parents - and all members of the General Assembly - and I am proud to see this important initiative to protect our schools move forward," Yudichak said. "These targeted grants will help our school districts roll out new initiatives and strengthen others already in place to ensure that our children have a safe learning environment."Yudichak, a co-sponsor of Senate Bill 10, said that the grants will be available to fund programs that address school violence and comprehensive district-wide school safety by either establishing or enhancing school security, or updating emergency preparedness plans. The bill now moves to the governor's desk.
