Defendants given hearings on warrants

A Coaldale man was among eight defendants who were given hearings in Schuylkill County court on bench warrants issued against them.

When the court releases a defendant on bail it does not mean he has full freedom but must follow rules and if they violate the rules, mainly failing to keep court appearances then a bench warrant is issued and they are taken off the street first lodged in prison for a appearance in court.David Edward Dahms, 37, of 215 E. High St., had his bench warrant dissolved by Judge James P. Goodman and bail reset at $5,000 percentage cash and he was ordered to reside at 366 Middleburg Road, White Haven, and cannot relocate without court order.He gave a Coaldale address when cited last Aug. 31 in Tuscarora Park by Rush Township Patrolman Richard Bekesey, and faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, and giving a false identification to police.Harry James Strain, 20, of 25 S. Kennedy Drive, McAdoo, had his bench warrant dissolved by Judge Charles M. Miller and bail reset at $1,000 unsecured with special conditions he must reside at 1131 Wood Haven Drive, White Haven, with his parents, and cannot relocated without permission from the district attorney, shall not possess or consume alcoholic beverages, not travel outside Pennsylvania, and seek gainful employment. He faces charges of possession of drug paraphernalia by McAdoo Patrolman Brent Getz.Robert Ray Hester, 34, Coatesville, had his bench warrant dissolved and bail revoked by Judge Charles M. Miller and he was remanded to the county prison to await trial on a series of criminal charges. He was cited by Ashland Chief Adam Bernodin Jr., with criminal trespass on property of John Meyer, 1998 Center St.; by Patrolman Thomas Weaver, with criminal trespass on property of Paul Hencher, 1009 Center St., and simple assault of Daniel Seyhler by Pottsville Sgt. John R. Morrow.James Joseph Harris, 26, Mahanoy City, had his bench warrant dissolved by Miller and bail reinstated. He faces charges of theft of a rented tuxedo from Strictly Formals, Pottsville, brought by Pottsville Patrolman James H. Murton Jr.Robert Seigel Jr., 24, Mahanoy City, had his bench warrant dissolved and bail reinstated by Miller. He faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia brought by Mahanoy City Patrolman Jonathan McHugh.Angelo Rojas, 33, Mahanoy City, had his bench warrant dissolved and bail reinstated at $5,000 unsecured bail by Goodman and ordered to reside at 29 E. Centre St., Mahanoy City, and cannot relocate without court permission. He faces charges of theft of two ladders from a demolition site in Mahanoy City as filed by Lt. John Kaczmarczyk.Michael James Kirkland, 29, Pine Grove, had his bench warrant dissolved and bail set at $2,000 percentage cash by Gooldman and ordered to reside at 1004 Suedberg Road, Pine Grove Township, and not relocate without court approval. He faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia by Pottsville Cpl. Mark O'Toole.Edward Charles Gunn, 51, Quakertown, had his bench warrant dissolved and current bail reinstated by Goodman with condition he must reside at 215 Ebervale Road, Ebervale, and cannot relocate and when released from prison must report to the district attorney and warned to attend all future court proceedings. Gunn faces a charge of theft of two cameras from Wal-Mart Store, Saint Clair.
