The Tamaqua Board of Health held its June meeting with Earl Boettger, James Gormley, Shirley Becker, Health Officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and Code Enforcement Officer Joshua Esposito in attendance.Esposito reported making two spot check inspections. The total number of licenses issued so far this year is 37. Seven properties failed their health inspections.He also received and adjusted 33 complaints: two leaking sewers; nine buildings condemned as unfit for human habitation; five dog waste; and 20 trash complaints. There were no cases of reportable diseases for the month.The board reminded residents that dog owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.Violations should be reported to Tamaqua Borough Hall, (570) 668-3444. Please provide the place, date, time and name of the dog's owner. Citations will then be filed through the office of District Magistrate Stephen Bayer.Market vouchersThe 2013 Senior Farm Market Nutrition Program, which provides older adults with vouchers for use at farm markets, will begin distributing vouchers in Tamaqua on June 18 at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.Representatives from the Schuylkill Transportation System will be available to share information and assist seniors in registering for the transportation service.The 2013 voucher program is administered by Diakon Community Services. Proof of eligibility is required, including proof of age, residency and income.
