A license plate reported as stolen in West Penn Township was recovered by Tamaqua police on May 17.

Patrolman Joseph Krebs was monitoring traffic at the Five Points intersection minutes after midnight when he observed a red Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling east on West Broad Street. The driver turned right onto Center Street, failing to use a turn signal. He then stopped the bike in the parking lot of Fegley's Mini Mart and sat there for several minutes. The operator then left Fegley's lot, traveled south on SR309 and made the left into the Burger King parking lot. He didn't use a turn signal for any of the turns.While observing the driver's actions Krebs conducted a records check on the license plate, which came back as a stolen plate.The officer then made contact with the bike's operator, who was identified as Jacob Kamant, 22, of 644 E. Broad St. Kamant did not have a license to operate a motorcycle and his regular driver's license had been suspended.He was charged with possession of an altered/forged/counterfeit license plate, receiving stolen property, displaying a foreign license during suspension/revocation, failure to use required turning signals, failure to have the proper license (motorcycle) class, failure to have the required registration and certificate of title, and refusal to surrender a suspended/revoked license.
