Adult Day Care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for June, including a Flag Day celebration on June 14.Other activities for the month will include: June 4, craft day; June 5, bingo; June 6, bulletin board; June 7, movie day; June 11, musical entertainment with Audrey Christ; June 13, cooking class; June 19, Salvation Army service; June 19, monthly birthday party; June 21, picnic.The day care center will be participating in the annual Summerfest celebration on June 9.In addition to weekly sing-alongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling and manicure service.Both require advance notice. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily.Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the center, becoming a member of the board of directors, or services provided, may call (570) 668-6577 or visit Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.Cressona bandThe Cressona Band will be appearing locally three times in June, providing free entertainment to all.The first concert will be held during the Zion's Church Lewistown Valley Old Fashioned Social, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., on June 8.Next up will be a performance at the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise, 222 E. Broad St., Tamaqua. This event will begin at 7 p.m. on June 19 and is sponsored by Dr. Richard Chwastiak and Shafer's Pharmacy.The third appearance will be on June 30, from 4-6 p.m., at Heisler's Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley. This event is being sponsored by the dairy, the Companion Animal Hospital of Tamaqua and Ron and Connie Glovich.All of the performances will include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear.The public is welcome to attend.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion.The worship and music committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.First MethodistThe Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. A children's message will be presented by Marge Kropp. Children's Sunday school will meet following the children's message.Also on Sunday, a family dinner will be held in the social room, immediately following the service. The dinner will include recognition of 50 year members and graduates, as well as a farewell to Pastor and Mrs. Cavallero, who are moving to the Lancaster area.Zion LewistownThe Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday. The service will include Confirmation and Communion. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.Zion's Old Fashioned Picnic will be held June 8, from 4-7 p.m. The Cressona Band will perform from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Festivities will also include cake walks, a basket raffle and hay bale tosses.Calvary MethodistThe Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion and graduate recognition. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a Bible study, praise and worship session will be held at 6:30 p.m.An hour of praise and prayer will be held at 7 p.m. next Wednesday.
