A Nesquehoning man has been charged with endangering the welfare of his children by going to a local bar and leaving them alone in his home.

Brian Karlick, 26, of 134 W. Railroad St., has been charged with one count each of endangering the welfare of a child, and recklessly endangering.On Thursday, May 23, about 2:13 p.m. Officer Timothy Wuttke received a complaint from a borough resident that Karlick was in a local club drinking while his three children were at home alone. Wuttke went to the residence and knocked on the door several times but no one answered. He then walked to the local club and observed Karlick exiting it and going to his residence. Wuttke asked Karlick where his children were and he said home sleeping.When asked if anyone was with them Karlick did not answer the officer. Through the course of the investigation police learned that Karlick had asked a female to come watch the children but she said she could not immediately come to the home. It was also learned that when Karlick entered the home with Wuttke outside, he called the woman and told her to come immediately to his home as police where there. The woman later told officers that Karlick asked her to lie to police and say she was with the children the entire time Karlick was out of the house.After the mother of the children arrived, Karlick began to openly say how wrong he was for leaving the children alone in the house. He was later interviewed by police at the station and admitted leaving the children, ages four, three, and one, alone and going to the bar.
