Two new monuments honoring military veterans will be dedicated today in Nesquehoning.

The dedication will be held at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Cemetery along Catawissa Street, across from Turkey Hill.The Nesquehoning Lions Club, which installed the new stones, said they are being added to a WWII monument, said Tony Cusanelli, a member of the Lions.The original monument at the site was placed there as part of the 50th anniversary of the ending of WWII.That stone lists 34 WWII casualties from Nesquehoning borough.Added is a stone which includes three Nesquehoning residents who died in Korea and a general tribute to veterans.The Korean War casualties were Albert Pecha, George Santore, and Daniel Vaccaro.Frank Parano, chairman of the project, said, "More than 1,200 men and women from this community served in the armed forces of the USA during World War II. That was over 20 percent of the community's population during 1941 to 1945."At that time the community consisted of Nesquehoning, Mauch Chunk Township, Coalport, Hacklebernie, and Hauto.Frank Jacobs, a Korean veteran involved with the project, said the dedication is being done two days before the Memorial Day celebration so not as to infringe on other events held on the holiday, including the community's parade.For morte information, contact Parano, chairman, at (570) 645-2956 or Larry Williams, Lions president, at (570) 225-6883.
