Fourteen motorists, including five from this area, who entered guilty pleas in Schuylkill County Court to driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol or drugs were placed in the Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP), which specifies long probation.

President Judge William E. Baldwin sentenced the following:Joel P. Farber, 31, of 43 Hunter St., Tamaqua, was placed for six months, including 15 days under house arrest with electronic monitoring, and pay a daily $12 fee, followed by 45 days under strict supervision, followed by four months on regular probation. He was fined $1,000, and must pay $100 to the Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, $50 to Catastrophe fund, complete highway safety school, perform 10 hours of community service, and driver's license suspended 12 months. Farber was cited by Tamaqua Patrolman Joseph Krebs.Donna E. Shistel, 60, of 91 Orchard Road, Barnesville, placed for six months, including 15 days under house arrest with electronic monitoring and pay a $12 daily fee, followed by 45 days of strict probation with remaining four months on regular probation. She was fined $1,000, and must pay $300 to the SAE fund, $50 to Catastrophe fund, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center (SMC), perform 100 hours community service, complete safety school, and had her driver's license suspended for 12 months. On a charge of endangering welfare of a child, she must serve an additional 12 months on probation and pay $50 to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account (CJEA). Shistel was cited by Rush Township Patrolman Bradley Hess.Joseph James Redner, 36, of 80 Pine Hill Road, New Ringgold, was sentenced to serve 10 days in the county prison, followed by five months and 20 days on probation in the IPP, including 40 days under house arrest with electronic monitoring, and must pay a $12 daily fee, followed by three months on regular probation. He was fined $750, and must pay $100 to the SAE fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, attend alcohol highway safety school, receive outpatient substance abuse treatment, and pay $50 to district attorney's office for a bench warrant. Also, his driver's license is suspended for 12 months and, when restored, shall install an ignition lock on the wheel of his vehicle for 12 months to monitor if he has consumed any alcohol. On a charge of being involved in an accident in the area of East Broad Street, Tamaqua, with a car operated by Lauren Pavalko, Redner must pay a fine of $300 and $50 costs. Diaz Avenue, Nesquehoning, was placed for six months, including 15 days under house arrest with electronic monitoring and pay a $12 daily fee, followed by 45 days under strict probation and four months on regular probation. He was fined $1,000, pay $100 to the SAE fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, complete safety school and outpatient substance abuse treatment, perform 10 hours community service, and had his driver's license suspended for 12 months. On a charge of failing to drive on roadway laned for traffic, Boner was fined $25 plus $50 costs. Boner was cited by Tamaqua Patrolman Joseph Krebs.Regina Sefing, 45, of 243 E. Grant St., McAdoo, was placed for five years with a long period to be served in a drug treatment facility, and was fined $1,500, must pay $100 to SAE fund, $200 to Catastrophe fund, $60 to SMC, complete safety school, perform 40 hours community service. Sefing also had her driver's license suspended 18 months, and when restored must install an ignition interlock in the vehicle for 12 months. On a charge of careless driving, she was fined $25 plus $50 costs. Sefing was cited by Butler Township Patrolman Shawn Butler.Jodi Lynn Hoats, 35, of 153 Croll Road, Zion Grove, North Union Township, was placed for six months, including 15 days under house arrest with electronic monitoring, followed by 45 days under strict probation, followed by four months under regular probation. She was fined $1,000, and must pay $300 to the SAE fund, $50 to Catastrophe fund, attend safety school, receive outpatient substance abuse treatment, perform 10 hours community service, and her driver's license was suspended for 12 months. Hoats was cited by Trooper Timothy Keating when stopped in Nuremberg, North Union Township.Shawn Patrick Buehl, 31, Mount Carmel, escaped a 30 day jail sentence because he spent 30 days in a rehab facility. He was placed for four years and 11 months, fined $1,000; and must pay $100 to the SAE fund, $100 to the Catastrophe fund, $60 to SMC, complete safety school, and perform 20 hours community service. His license suspended 18 months, and when restored he shall install an ignition interlock on his vehicle for 12 months. Buehl was cited by Trooper Michael Becker when stopped on Powder Mill Road in Butler Township.Judge John E. Domalakes placed seven in the IPP.Daniel J. Day, 55, Mahanoy City, was placed for five years and fined $1,500. He must pay $100 to the SAE fund, $200 to the Catastrophe fund, $60 to SMC, complete safety school, and perform 20 hours community service. His driver's license was suspended for 18 months, and when restored must install ignition interlock on vehicle for 12 months. On a charge of driving while license suspended, Day was fined $500 and must serve an additional 90 days under house arrest with electronic monitoring, and pay a $12 daily fee, and for failing to wear his seat belt was fined $25 plus $50 costs. Day was cited by Trooper Michael Breznik when stopped in Oneida, East Norwegian Township.Charles Michael Konscler, 47. Ringtown, was placed for six months, fined $500, and must pay $100 to the SAE fund, $50 to the Catastrophe fund, attend safety school, perform 10 hours community service, and had his driver's license suspended for 12 months. On a charge of driving following registration suspension, he was fined $100 plus $50 costs. Konscler was cited by Trooper Joseph Aponick in Shenandoah.Edward Francis Doran, 50, Branchdale, Branch Township, must serve 10 days in the county prison with the sentence to begin at 6 p.m. Friday, June 14, followed by four years and 11 months on probation. His driver's license was suspended for 18 months, and when restored he must install an ignition interlock in his vehicle for 12 months.
