A Lansford landmark is up for sale.

The former Trinity and St. Phillip's Episcopal Church, at 5 E. Ridge St., next door to the Lansford-Coaldale Joint Water Authority, is on the market.The church closed more than a year ago, as its congregation grew older and fewer, said Robert D. Romeril Sr., chairman of the Incorporated Trustees of the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem.Although services are still held once a month, it's time for the former church to serve the community in a new way."We'd like to see the building used for a similar purpose, as something that aids and uplifts the community, and that it remain a value to the heart and the spirit of the community," Romeril said.As a transition, the church will host a summer feeding program for children, he said.The kitchen and basement area have been leased to the Summit Hill Heritage Center for their Youth Feeding program, from June 9 until Aug. 19.Bob Silver, a prominent Lansford businessman who is active in the community improvement group Lansford Alive!, and other civic organizations, said he believes the church should be "donated" to a nonprofit community group.Lansford borough council President Rose Mary Cannon at a public meeting Wednesday announced the sale of the church. She referred to a brochure created by the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem to help sell the building.According to the brochure, the trustee's goal is to "identify a buyer who would utilize the space in a manner that reflects well on the former use of the space."The stained glass windows will be removed and replaced with clear glass; all church related furniture, fixtures, article storage containers, vestments and books will also be removed. The church pews are not included in the offer, but that is negotiable. Commercial tables and chairs are included, and kitchenware, utensils and chinaware may be included.There are no known mortgages, liens, or other encumbrances on the property.The land was purchased from LC&N on June 15, 1897, according to the Diocese' brochure. The lot size is 80 feet wide by 150 feet long; extending from East Ridge Street on the south to East Snyder Avenue on the north. The building is roughly 55 feet by 32 feet, approximately 1,740 square feet. The building occupies about 85 percent of the lot.For more information, call Romeril at 484) 894-7013.
