The Tamaqua Area Middle School Spring Art Show and Choral Concert will be held May 2 in the middle school. The art show will be held from 7-7:30 p.m. in the hallway outside of the auditorium. Students from sixth, seventh and eighth grades will have their art work displayed, including paintings, 3-D interiors, murals, sketches, masks, group projects, cultural art, tiles, watercolor, fashion design, collages and more. There is no entry fee for the show.The Spring Chorus Concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held in the district auditorium. Performances will be offered by the Jazz Choral/Concert Choir and the Middle School Select and General ChorusesDay of prayerBethany Evangelical Congregational will be hosting a National Day of Prayer Event on May 2. This year's theme is "Pray For America," based on Matthew 12:21. The event will be held at noon at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St. The public is welcome.SS. Peter and PaulFirst Friday will be observed this week in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. First Friday confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m. Communion calls will begin at 9 a.m., with the exception of the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, Coaldale and Hometown. Communion calls to those parishioners will be made on Thursday.May 4 will be a Fatima Saturday. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Recitation of the Rosary and Devotions before the 8 a.m. Mass.Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass on May 5 and receive Holy Communion as a group. A rosary will be said before the Mass.The Sacrament of Confirmation was celebrated in SS. Peter and Paul on April 24. Jacquie Patrick provided the invocation, titled "Risk Takers." Reports were presented by the secretary and treasurer. A discussion was held on the annual picnic, set for Aug. 15. Menus were provided by three potential caterers. Members voted on Christy Joy.Pearl and Eleanor Roberts were on the sick list, cards will be sent. Three seats are still available for Knoebels Grove on Senior Day.Members were reminded to refrain from parking in the driveway to allow access for emergency vehicles.The president received pamphlet's stating that STS goes to Mohegan Sun. She also recommended a trip to Red Lobster, Olive Garden and Vanity Fair. The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the Masonic Lodge, located on SR54 (East) in Hometown. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessibleMeals on WheelsThe Tamaqua Area Meals on Wheels organization needs volunteers to help deliver meals.
