When two evenly matched opponents meet, there's always the potential for late game drama. Wednesday afternoon in Hometown that was exactly the case.

The Tri-Valley Bulldogs used a four-run seventh inning scoring barrage to defeat host Marian 7-3 in an important Schuylkill League Division 2 showdown.This contest was a back and forth affair from the onset.The Colts got out to the early 1-0 lead in third after Luke Stawick reached base on an error. Shortstop Mike Cataldo then singled and Stawick scored on a throwing error back to first.Tri-Valley answered back quickly in the fourth, scoring three runs, two of which were brought in by Ty Waizenegger.Marian, like any solid team didn't get discouraged, scoring two runs in the fourth to knot things up at three a piece."We expect this kind-of game everytime we play Tri-Valley," said Marian coach Jeff Nietz. "They're going to get our best and we're going to get their best. This was another one of those games today. It was back and forth, it was a dog fight, some things just didn't go our way there at the end of the ball game."Marian escaped a bases loaded jam in the sixth, but they wouldn't get so lucky in the seventh.The Bulldogs Hunter Bordner started the seventh with a walk, followed by a Dalton Miller single, and another walk to Cole Bruso. That would set up a bases loaded situation for Collin Maurer.Maurer didn't disappoint hitting a blooper over the Colts second baseman, scoring Bordner. Miller was thrown out at the plate trying score, while Maurer and Bruso moved up to second and third.The Bulldogs would then tack on two more runs in the inning with Gavin Kline and Ty Waizenegger singles."Both teams had opportunities today and they took advantage of them more than we did," said Nietz. "They had two hits hit the chalk for them there and like I said before we just didn't have some things go our way. It was back and forth there and somebody had to win it."With the loss Marian drops to 5-5 on the year with a ton of important games left on the schedule. Also due to bad weather, the Colts have had quite the aggressive game schedule as of late."I just think we need some time off," said Nietz. "Four games last week, five games this week, and four games next week doesn't really give you the chance to fine tune anything. We just need some time to catch our breath. Our kids are actually playing good baseball now, and we're happy with their effort.
