Rikki Correll wasn't happy with how she had been pitching early in the season - and the Pleasant Valley southpaw knew exactly what she needed to do about it.

Correll went for an in-season pitching lesson.If Monday's results against Lehighton are any indication, Correll learned her lesson well.Correll tossed a one-hitter, struck out nine, and allowed just one ball out of the infield all day as Pleasant Valley rolled to a 13-0 Mountain Valley Conference victory over the Indians.Correll's near-perfect performance was something she had been waiting for during the first couple weeks of the season."I just wasn't happy with how I was throwing," said Correll. "So yesterday I went and got a quick lesson from my pitching coach."I was much happier with my rhythm today. This is the best I've felt this season."Correll wasn't the only one happy with the way she threw the ball.Both coaches sang her praise after the game."I thought Rikki pitched really well," said Pleasant Valley coach Steve Caffrey. "She throws a fastball, curve, change-up and riser, and I thought she threw them all well. She was also hitting her spots. It was a nice all-around effort."Lehighton coach Greg Poremba also was impressed with Correll."Pleasant Valley was the best team we played this year and Correll was the best pitcher we've seen," he complimented. "She had good speed, good movement and excellent location."We struggled just to make solid contact against her."On the other hand, Pleasant Valley had no trouble making solid contact as eight different Bears combined for 11 hits.Tracy Deubler, Madison Shaneberger and Correll all had two hits in the game. Shaneberger, Jordan Meckes, Kelci Jones and Katie Lenhart all drove in two runs."It took us a couple of innings to get going offensively," said Caffrey. "But we finally adjusted a little bit, got some solid hits, and then took advantage of some errors to break the game open."Leading 1-0 in the third inning, Pleasant Valley scored four runs after there were two out and nobody on base. Lenhard's two-run single was the big blow. Shaneberger and Kelsey Miczak added RBI singles.Meckes and Jones both drilled two-run singles as Pleasant Valley put the mercy rule into effect with a six-run outburst in the fifth. The big inning was fueled by five Lehighton infield errors."We're playing okay the last week, but I know we can still be better," said Caffrey. "We need to work hard in practice and keep improving. I know we're still not as good as we can eventually be."The win was the fourth straight for the Bears (4-4, 4-0)."We played some good Lehigh Valley Conference teams early in the year," said Correll. "It was tough competition and we didn't do very well.
