Driver charged in fatal Lehigh crash

A Philadelphia driver has been charged in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on Aug. 15, 2012, in Lehigh County.

State police at Fogelsville said Michael Lugo, 19, has been charged with careless driving resulting in unintentional death, driving on roadways laned for traffic, and operation of a vehicle without official certificate of inspection.The crash occurred about 10:23 a.m. along Interstate 78 westbound in Allentown.Troopers said Lugo was the operator of a 1995 Toyota Camry that had pulled onto the center berm and stopped because of a flat tire. In the process of pulling back into the left lane of travel his vehicle was struck in the rear by a 2010 Mazda 6 driven by Raymond Rooney, 52, of Goshen, N.Y.A passenger with Rooney, Linda Rooney, 51, of Goshen, seated in the left rear of the car, died of injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.Rooney and two other passengers were injured as was Lugo and four passengers with him. The injuries ranged from minor to moderate.A third vehicle, a 2010 Freightliner with trailer, was involved in the crash, driven by Glenn Pettus, 24, of Chase City, Va. He was not injured but his passenger, Leah Faust, 18, of Coopersburg, Lehigh County, sustained a minor injury.
