PennDOT announced that $242,444 in Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) funding will be distributed to five municipalities located in its Engineering District 5 area.

Statewide, approximately $4.7 million in grants are being distributed to 43 municipalities and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission.Under state law, fines from infractions at 21 intersections in Philadelphia supply the grant funding.Municipalities submitted more than 268 applications, totaling approximately $25.4 million.Projects were selected by an eight-member committee based on criteria such as project benefits and effectiveness, cost, local and regional impact, and cost sharing.The five projects awarded in District 5 are:• $135,240 to Allentown for pedestrian improvements as part of the Allentown Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Plan;• $6,500 to Bangor for 1st Street and Market Street signal light improvements (light emitting diode (LED) upgrades);• $7,392 to Bath for LED traffic signal upgrades;• $8,074 to Pen Argyl in for LED traffic signal upgrades;• $85,238 to Wind Gap for traffic signal timing upgrades.
