The Pleasant Valley School District (PVSD) received an invitation to join the Colonial League athletic conference for the 2014-2015 school year. PVSD is a member of the Mountain Valley Conference since 1993, when it was formed.

Thomas Murphy, PVSD board president, read a statement at the March 28 school board meeting, informing the public about the invitation and that the deadline for the district's decision is April 9.Murphy said that with four of the nine school board directors absent, (Harvey Frable, Russ Gould, Charles Hoffman, Dominic Sacci) it was difficult to make any kind of decision this quickly without their input. The issue will be discussed at the Monday, April 8 Buildings and Grounds meeting, which is open to the public, at 7 p.m. at the district office located at the Pleasant Valley Middle School building. A decision will be made on April 11 at the regular school board meeting at 8 p.m. at the district office.The board voted (5-0) to send the Colonial League a letter to inform them of the timeline of their meetings and when a decision could be made.The board voted, 5-0, to approve the revision of Policy No. 803 School Calendar. Special note was given to the start of the school year which states: "If Labor Day falls on September 1, 2, or 3, the first day of school for students will be the first Tuesday after Labor Day. If Labor Day falls on September 4, 5, 6, or 7, the first day of school for students will be on Monday of the week before Labor Day."That means, the first day of school for the 2013-2014 school year will be on Tuesday, Sept. 3.In other business, the board approved, 5-0, to hire:*part-time paraprofessional associates Angela Frantz to replace Ashley Kozicki and Jean Van Vliet to replace Jerome Langan at an annual salary of $20,331, prorated, at PVI.*Angela Frantz and Jean Van Vliet as substitute paraprofessionals*Jean Van Vliet as an elementary substitute teacher*Cathy Jo Dailey as a cafeteria worker/monitor*Rebecca Martini as a long-term substitute 7th grade reading teacher at an annual salary of $40,900, prorated, effective April 2); Matthew Cully and Brian Winkler, both 8th graders, placed third in Web Page Design (Boy Scouts.)*The Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 STAR (Superior Technology Achievement Recognition) Awards nominees from PVMS are Ann Crimaldi, Kathleen Dekmar, Ashley Hoffman, Sarah Rusnock, and Roxanne Scott. The awards are to honor the outstanding integration of technology into classrooms and schools throughout Northampton, Monroe and Pike counties. The banquet to honor these nominees will be held April 11.*MCTI students Anthony Ciuppa and Thomas Kelly competed at the DECA State Career Conference.
