Three Nesquehoning area fire companies were dispatched Monday to the Nesquehoning campus of Lehigh Carbon Community College after smoke was discovered in the structure. The alarm came in just after 8 a.m. with Nesquehoning, Hauto, and New Columbus fire companies responding, as well as Lehighton paramedics and police. Firefighters used a heat detection device to search for the cause but came up empty. An aerial truck was utilized to place several firemen on the roof of the structure, who also looked for the heat or smoke source, but again it eluded the first responders. The fire companies were on scene for nearly two hours.
