Man faces assault charges in Mahoning

A Lehighton man has been arrested on charges that he assaulted his girlfriend.

Terry Williams, 51, was arraigned before District Judge Edward Lewis and placed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 straight bail.The alleged assault occurred in Mahoning Township.Police said that on March 3, at 6:27 p.m., they were dispatched to an assault at 111-A Jamestown Street.Police stated that on arrival officers found a female had allegedly been assaulted by her boyfriend. She sustained serious facial injuries and was transported by Lehighton Ambulance to Gnaden Huetten Hospital for treatment.Williams was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a felony 1, and simple assault, a misdemeanor 2.Police said that during a follow up interview, the victim provided additional details and indicated that Williams attempted to smother her two-three days prior to the date of the assault.A separate complaint was filed against Williams for this incident. He was charged with aggravated assault and two counts of simple assault. Bail was set at $25,000 on the new charges.
