Older and bolder

The Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group will spring back into action on March 13. The regular Wednesday meetings are held at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St., and include a light luncheon. The first meeting of the year will have an Irish/Green theme.Joe Krushinsky of the American Cancer Society will be the guest speaker for the March 20 meeting. On March 21, activities will include a baby photo contest, games, trivia and distribution of the homemade Easter candy.For more information on the Older and Bolder group, or to join, call Dina at (570) 668-0410.KindergartenThe Tamaqua Area School District will be conducting kindergarten registration on March 18, 19 and 20, by appointment only.Registration packets are available at all three of the district's elementary schools or by calling (570) 668-3306.During the registration process, children will be evaluated by a team of professionals, including a classroom teacher, nurse and speech therapist. Parents/guardians must supply the child's proof of residency, health and immunization records and the child's original birth certificate.Office hours at the schools are Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.Rush-Ryan seniorsThe Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Feb. 26 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 48 members and one guest in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session.Chaplain Kathleen Valentine provided the invocation and reports were offered by Shirley Becker and Gloria Gerhard. A trip to Knoebel's Grove is being planned for June 12.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at the fire company. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.Lenten services will be held next Wednesday at Immanuel United Methodist Church in West Penn Township. The evening will begin with a song fellowship, at 7:15 p.m, with a service at 7:30 p.m.
