Tribute to a dedicated volunteer

Scores of emergency service personnel, friends, relatives, and peers attended the funeral yesterday for Claudia J. Sokol, 55, of Summit Hill. Sokol, a member of the Summit Hill Fire Police, died Friday after collapsing while on duty Thursday as a fire police member at an accident scene. Besides serving as a fire police member, she was involved in many other capacities including knee-hi cheerleading coach, helping at the Lansford Coal Miners Museum, assisting at the Lansford Food Pantry, serving with the line chain crew at football games, a caretaker for her aunt, and a kindergarten school bus monitor. Fire apparatus from various companies in Carbon and Schuylkill County took part in the funeral procession. The casket was carried from Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lansford to the

G.A.R. Cemetery in Summit Hill on the hose bed of Summit Hill Fire Department's new pumper. An arch to the cemetery was formed with ladder trucks from the Lansford and Nesquehoning fire departments.
