A 16 year old Tamaqua male faces charges related to an arson fire on Feb. 10 at 108 Schuylkill Ave., Tamaqua.

At approximately 5 p.m. that day, the teen set afire a mattress that was leaning against the residence. The act was witnessed by resident Howard Boyer, 40, who confronted the would be arsonist. The teen took off running and Boyer gave chase.When Boyer slipped and fell on the ice, the chase was continued by Anthony Houser, 22, of Tamaqua. Houser was able to nab the teen in the area of the Five Points, then called police.Boyer was transported to the hospital for leg injuries. The teen suspect told Patrolman Matthew Houser he "didn't mean to set the mattress on fire, just wanted to see what would happen if a lighter was used on it."A juvenile petition was filed with Schuylkill County Juvenile Probation.
