Reported stabbing in Hometown was self-inflicted, police report

Rush Township Police Department received a phone call that a male was stabbed Thursday night at the Turkey Hill on Claremont Ave. (SR309) in Hometown.

Police Sgt. Duane Frederick stated that the male, Robert Campomizzi, 29, of Tamaqua, stated he was stabbed at 7:30 a.m. and called the non emergency line at 9:59 a.m. to report it.In addition, rumors and other conversations on Facebook and other social network online spread fear among many residents in Hometown.Through a detailed investigation by police, they learned that the male stabbed himself several times in the stomach and made up the story. Frederick added, "The stab wounds were very superficial."Campomizzi will be charged with facing unsworn falsification to authorities.
