Marijuana found in car

McAdoo police have cited Andrew H. Petrushka, 22, of Hazleton, after receiving results of lab tests conducted by the state police crime lab.

Patrolman William Curilla was on patrol the night of Nov. 30, 2012, when he observed a silver Hyundai with an extremely loud muffler. He stopped the vehicle in the area of Cleveland and Blaine streets and noted the driver was Petrushka, a man he had cited two weeks earlier for driving with an expired license. A records check determined the license was still expired. The three occupants of the Hyundai exited the car and the officer was given verbal permission to search the car.During the search, a blunt with suspected marijuana was found on the floor behind the driver's seat. Additionally, a cellophane wrapper with a green leafy material was located in an empty cigarette pack in the area of the driver's side door. Petrushka admitted the items were his.The lab determined the material in the blunt and the cellophane wrapper were marijuana.Charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a license, and operating a motor vehicle with a faulty or modified exhaust system were filed with District Judge Steven Bayer, of Tamaqua.
