The Preceptor Alpha Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority will meet at 7 p.m. today at Two Kings Pizza in Hometown. The meeting will include a Secret Sister Valentine exchange.The first meeting of 2013 was held Jan. 9 at the home of Mary Machay. Topics of discussion included the sorority-sponsored Tamaqua Community Easter Egg Hunt, which will be held March 23, as well as a clothing drive for the first week in June at the American Hose Fire Company. Chapter members plan to attend a comedy night at the American Hose on Feb. 16.Machay ended the meeting with safety tips concerning winter driving.The Jan. 23 meeting was held at the home of Cathy Santee. Vice-president Wanda Keefer provided a quiz on the early history of Beta Sigma Phi. A thank you letter was received from Operation Enduring Care, a program helping wounded soldiers return to daily living and activities. The program received a donation from the sorority.Santee's program focused on hunting clothing. She provided a display with several different types of camouflage clothing, explaining the differences and the specific hunting seasons for each.Honor rollThe name of Nikolas Knepper was inadvertently omitted from the Tamaqua Area Middle School's Honor Roll. Nikolas is a sixth-grade student, who earned highest honors for the second marking period of the 2012-2013 school year.Senior citizensThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Jan. 31 at the Masonic Lodge in Hometown with 63 members in attendance.Vice President Nancy Gerber conducted the business session and provided her report. Jacquie Patrick provided the invocation, titled "Settling In." A moment of silence was held in memory of Alice Miller.Secretary Joan Anne Garber provided her report. December and January birthdays were celebrated. Members were reminded to bring brown bag lunches for the February meetings.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge, located on SR54 (East) in Hometown.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.SS. Peter and PaulThe Holy Name Society of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will meet at 8 p.m. this Thursday. The meeting will be preceded by a Mass, at 7:30 p.m.Choir rehearsals resume at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 13.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery and primary church are offered during the later service. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.Also on Sunday, the To Save A Life growth group will met at 6:30 p.m. at the Tamaqua Arts Center and the Couples Sacred Marriage growth group will meet at 7 p.m. at the church.Activities for next week will include: Monday, drama growth group meets at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Homes of Honor parents growth group meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry will meet at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, coffee shop theology growth group meets at 7 a.m., encountering Jesus growth group meets at 1 p.m., at the Majestic House, men's fraternity meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician practice at 8:30 a.m., followed by praise practice at 9:30 a.m.
