Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Jan. 8 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 44 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session.Chaplain Kathleen Valentine provided the invocation and reports were offered by Shirley Becker and Gloria Gerhard. Madeline and Harry Heffelfinger were congratulated on their 44th wedding anniversary. A trip to Knoebel's Grove is being planned for June 12.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at the fire company. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Tamaqua softballThe Tamaqua Area Girls Youth Softball Association has released the registration dates for the 2013 season. Registration is open to girls between the ages of 5-16 who reside within the Tamaqua area. Teams will be split into age groups: 5-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-16.Registrations will be held Feb. 9-16, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Tamaqua Elementary School; and Feb. 23 and Feb. 24, 1-3 p.m., at the Tamaqua Elks.For more information, call (570) 386-2717, 778-2878 or (570) 617-0584.Tax exemptionsThe Schuylkill County and Tamaqua Borough Per Capita and Occupation Tax Exemption forms for the year 2013 are currently available for borough residents.The exemption forms can be obtained at the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Forms will also be available at tax collector Alan Kerr's office, the Tamaqua Area School District Administration building, the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, Majestic House Apartment Complex, the Tamaqua Public Library and the Tamaqua Post Office.Residents must complete the form each year to qualify for the tax exemption.Exoneration forms must be submitted by Friday, Jan. 28, 2013.Calvary MethodistThe Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include a saxophone solo, presented by Lindsay Schlegan. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.An evening prayer and share service is held Wednesdays at 7 p.m.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.Activities for next week include: Monday, stewardship meeting at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir rehearsal at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m., chancel/adult choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m., finance committee meeting at 7 p.m.
