A Delano man was one of three sentenced on criminal charges in Schuylkill County Court

Timothy Russell Steward Jr., 39, of 161 Mogish St., who pleaded guilty on Oct. 17, was sentenced by Judge Jacqueline Russell on two counts of having involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a minor to serve 10 to 20 years in a state correctional institution. On two other charges he received concurrent sentences, unlawful contact with a minor, five to 10 years, and aggravated indecent assault, three to six years. On two additional charges, corruption of minors and indecent exposure, the judge ruled the counts merged for purpose of sentencing.Steward was cited by Trooper Melissa Kyper who reported the violations occurred in January 2011. Steward also pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent assault on a eight year old boy, filed by Trooper Edward J. Lizewski on Aug. 6, 2010. He received a sentence of nine to 24 months to run concurrent with the other sentences imposed.Russell also directed Steward shall have no contact of any nature with the victims and all sentences imposed to run concurrent to the federal sentence imposed on Sept. 5, 2012, by U.S. District Senior Judge Richard A.. Conaboy, who sentenced Steward to serve 20 years in a federal prison plus a lifetime on supervision once he is released on parole.Russell gave him credit for 257 days spent in jail on the charges. He also must pay $100 to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account (CJEA) fund and costs of prosecution. He also must register as a sexually violent predator.Other casesRay Allen Shoup, 38, who pleaded guilty last Oct. 17, was sentenced by Judge John E. Domalakes on 15 counts of sexual abuse of children by posting child pornography on his computer, to serve 18 to 46 months in the county prison followed by five years of probation. Shoup begins serving his sentence on Friday, Jan. 18 at 9 a.m.The court ruled Shoup does not meet the criteria of a sexually violent predator but is subject to the Megan's Law requirements and must register for a period of 15 years. He received credit for serving 14 days in the county prison. Shoup was cited by Cpl. Paul Smith, state trooper, who reported Shoup possessed a computer filled with child pornography.Iashe William Thompson, 32, Pottsville, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs and was sentenced by Judge Charles M. Miller to serve 72 hours to six months in the county prison and reported to prison Wednesday 9:30 a.m. to begin serving his sentence. He also was ordered to pay a fine of $1,000, pay $300 to the Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, $50 to the CJEA fund, $50 to the Catastrophe fund, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center, $176 to Bethlehem Regional Lab, attend the alcohol highway safety school, perform 10 hours community service, and obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and comply with any recommended treatment.On a summary charge of driving while his operating privileges were suspended he was fined $200 plus $50 costs. Thompson was cited by Pottsville Patrolman Brian J. Reno.Thompson also entered a plea of nolo contendre (no defense) to a charge of simple assault on Pottsville Cpl. Dennis Wiederhold, and was placed on probation for 23 months consecutive to the DUI sentence.On charges of resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance was sentenced to serve three months on probation on each count to run concurrent and on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana to serve 15 days on probation also to run concurrent. He was cited by Pottsville Patrolman Renee R Galle.Each defendant must also pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
