Slatington woman faces theft charges

Published September 19. 2013 05:00PM

A 22-year-old Slatington woman faces theft charges after allegedly stealing 12 DVDs from a Kmart store.

Jessica Dominique Williams, of the 8700 block of Loop Road, is accused of entering Kmart, 400 North Best Ave. in Walnutport, at 9:15 p.m. Sept. 4 and placing 12 DVDs into a shopping cart. Store video surveillance footage then showed Williams proceeding into various store departments, fitting rooms and the restroom, according to court documents.

Documents say packaging from the DVDs was later found in the garbage of the restroom. Williams then made her way past cashiers and left the store without paying for the merchandise. A store loss prevention officer attempted to stop her.

The loss prevention officer then called Lehigh Township police, who arrived at the scene and searched Williams' vehicle upon consent, documents say. Police found the DVDs in her glove compartment.

She was arraigned Sept. 11 by District Judge Jacqueline Taschner, who set bail at $15,000 unsecured.
