Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Sept. 7. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery size brown paper bags.

Persons missed, or those wishing to dispose of papers throughout the month, may take them to the garage across from the church on Fireline Road, which is always open. In case of bad weather, the drive will be held the following Saturday.

Historical society meeting

The Palmerton Area Historical Society notes a change for its general meeting on Monday, Sept. 9, in the Knight's Gallery of the Palmerton Area Library.

Due to circumstances beyond his control, the originally scheduled speaker is unable to attend. Instead, Peter Kern will speak on "The NJZ, Palmerton and Beyond."

Kern's presentation will include some surprise information which is not commonly known. A brief business meeting will start at 7 p.m., followed by the program.

Art show

The annual art show by adults and students in all media, watercolor, oils, and acrylics, and photography, black and white and color presented by the Concourse Club of Palmerton, will take place Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 8, from 1-4 p.m., at St. John Neumann Regional School, 3rd and Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton.

Quilt Guild

A new quilt guild has formed in Palmerton and will meet at the Palmerton Area Library on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m., with the next meeting being Sept. 12. Please use the side door. Bring your ideas and enthusiasm. Call the library at (610) 826-3424 for more information.

Community meal

A free community meal will be served from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. The public is invited to enjoy a free meal and fellowship.
