Rossino named MVP

Anthony Rossino led the West to a victory in the Keystone Senior Babe Ruth All-Star game.

Anthony Rossino of the Franklin Township Shockers won MVP honors in the 11th Annual Keystone Senior Babe Ruth All-Star Game as the West squad gained a 5-4 victory over the East.

Rossino knocked in what proved to be the game-winning run in the eighth inning, stole three bases and also scored a run.

The West team was made up of players from the Shockers, the Franklin Township Hurricanes, the Panther Valley Black Diamonds and the Towamensing Yankees.

Luke Stano of the Black Diamonds was the game's winning pitcher by tossing a scoreless eighth frame. Mike Cataldo of the Hurricanes earned the save.

Cataldo also added a hit and knocked in a run. PV's Mark Williams contributed a double while Dan Dailey chipped in with a run and an RBI.

Starlin Colon of the Hazleton Mountaineers was the MVP for the East squad.

Nick Kweder pitched a five-hit shutout and struck out 14 batters to lead the Panther Valley Black Diamonds to a 3-0 win over the Forks Township Falcons.

Kweder, who walked just two, also contributed a triple at the plate. Mark Williams delivered a double and an RBI while Frank Nietz had a triple.

After the Towamensing Yankees forced extra innings by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning, the Hazleton Mountaineers pushed across a run in the home eighth to walk-off with a 9-8 victory.

Ty Achtermann paced the Towamensing offense with two hits, three runs and an RBI.

Yankees-B. Diamonds

Zach Svetik fired a four-hitter to lead the Towamensing Yankees to a 4-1 win over the Panther Valley Black Diamonds.

Svetik struck out four batters and received offensive support from Austin Cook and Stephanie Augustine, who both had a hit and RBI.

Yankees-B. Diamonds

Greg Wierzbicki had a single, double, triple and knocked in three runs to help the Towamensing Yankees gain a 7-3 victory over the Panther Valley Black Diamonds.

Nick Frey, the game's winning pitcher, also had two hits and knocked in a run. Mike Sander aided the win with two hits, one a double, and an RBI.

Pottsville's Tyler Moser tossed a one-hitter to lead his team to an 8-0 win over Tamaqua.

Moser, who also had two hits at the plate, struck out nine batters.

Matt Roberts collected the only hit for the Blue Sox, who dropped to 1-6.
