Volunteer reading coaches recognized

Published June 17. 2013 05:06PM

Volunteer Reading Coaches from the local AMETEK Chemical Products Division scooped water ice for over 500 students celebrating 100 hours of reading at Panther Valley Elementary School recently.

This year the 15 volunteers spent half an hour each week reading with and to students in kindergarten through third grade as part of the 100 Book Challenge program sponsored by a grant from the AMETEK Foundation. The partnership is in its 10th year and will continue into the next school year.

The program supplies leveled books for the students to read in school and at home. Coaches help readers who need encouragement, coaching, or mentoring.

Principal Mary Figura and Program Site Coordinator Tonia Miletto organized the event for the volunteers and students. Reading volunteers received certificates of appreciation.

Ametek Volunteer Reading Coaches include Sherry Sinclair, Chad Hammerly, Jeannine Gallagher, Susan Zimmerman, Lois Girer, Shannon Manno, Kellie Miller, August Long, Gloria Flynn and Suzan Sinton.
