Walnutport retains previous appointments

Walnutport Borough Council met Thursday night for the first time in 2013. Not much has changed for the council since 2012. All the council members were present with one notable exception, Mayor Henry Kline.

President Matthew Newhard asked for a motion to retain all previous appointments set forth by the council. It was approved unanimously. He then turned to Vice President Michael Gaston for the finance report.Gaston was happy to announce that the Borough of Walnutport remained within the budget for the previous year with only three exceptions. Two of those areas where they had gone over budget were with the Walnutport police department.Councilman Bill Turk read a complaint letter about the continued problem with garbage and recycling collection to the council and members of the public that were present. It has been an on going problem where the waste collection workers for Mc Auliffe Hauling & Recycling are taking recycling materials and throwing them away with the regular garbage collection. The council agreed that something would need to be done. The Borough has an ordinance that would allow them to fine any drivers or workers caught mixing recycling materials in with the regular trash. The Walnutport Borough Council will meet again next Thursday night at 7 pm at the Borough Hall on Lincoln Avenue.
