ALLENTOWN - Turnovers and poor shooting will severely hinder any team's chances of winning a basketball game.

The Pleasant Valley girls' basketball team knows that all too well.As has seemed to be the case in most of the Lady Bears' lop-sided losses this season, the locals once again didn't take good care of the ball and had trouble putting it in the basket. This time the poor performance put an end to Pleasant Valley's season as it fell to Parkland in the quarterfinals of the District 11 AAAA playoffs 49-30."I am proud of the girls," said Pleasant Valley head coach Nadia Gauronsky afterward. "I thought they had a good season. Almost all of them are juniors and will be back next year."I am proud of them for having the year that they did. Hopefully next season we come out a little bit better and take care of the ball."Pleasant Valley's miscues began early. Although the Bears led 3-0 midway through the first quarter, the three points came on their only shot attempt. The rest of the four minutes were spent turning the ball over. Parkland couldn't capitalize though, as the Trojans started 0-for-5 from the field.Callie Krajcir finally got Parkland on the board and went on to score all seven of her team's first-quarter points. Meanwhile the Bears went 1-for-7 from the field and trailed 7-5.It then became a game of runs in the second quarter. Pleasant Valley managed to tie the game at nine when Arden Cisluycis buried a shot from the corner. However, the Trojans answered with a 7-0 run to take a 16-9 lead at the 3:30 mark.The Bears put together another run - which turned out to be their last - and got to within two points (18-16) with 1:45 left before halftime. Unfortunately, that would be the closest they would get. Parkland went on a 9-0 spurt to end the half and took a 27-16 lead into the break.The Trojans' 20-point second quarter was sparked by their press. Parkland switched up and used a number of different defenses and forced the Bears into seven turnovers. The turnovers led to easy buckets and a nice 57-percent shooting percentage (8-for-14).Parkland kept things rolling in the second half. The Trojans started the half with another 7-0 run and went on to outscore Pleasant Valley 22-14 in the final 16 minutes.Krajcir led Parkland (19-6) with a game-high 14 points. Teammate Allison Cressman added eight.Keri Dekmar paced Pleasant Valley with 11 points. Fellow Bears Kiki Russell and Mackenzie Dorney each added six.Pleasant Valley ends its 2012-13 season with a 16-9 overall record. Considering she was concerned about her team's youth and inexperience before the year, Gauronsky was pleased with the effort her group put forth over the season. All but one member of this year's team (Cisluycis) will be back next year."I think they did a very good job," said Gauronsky. "Hopefully they can take that into consideration. We may have lost the first round of districts, but we worked hard and we will all be back next year.
