Bears, Indians split MVC meet

There wasn't too much drama at Pleasant Valley and Lehighton's Mountain Valley Conference track meet Tuesday afternoon.

The two teams split on the day, with each school possessing a team that won in a decisive manner. The Lehighton girls' won by a score of 95-55, while the Pleasant Valley boys ran away with a 119-31 victory.Sage Terembula led the Lady Indians' to the win, as she won both the 100 and 200-meter dashes along with the long jump. Terembula posted times of 12.75 and 26.93 seconds in the 100 and 200 respectively."I thought my times were pretty good considering the weather," said Terembula after the 200-meter dash. "I didn't PR in the 200, but I came close in the 100. I might have, I might not have. I am not positive, but I thought they were good."Terembula also tied for first in the long jump with teammate Riley Durishin with a leap of 15 feet, four-and-a-half inches."It is not really my event," admitted Terembula. "I am not very good at it. I haven't PR-ed in a really long time. But it was okay I guess. I got to where I needed to be."The Indians' min thrower in Gwen Remaley helped out in the winning effort as well. Remaley won both of the events she stars in - the shot put and the discus - with relative ease. She won the discus by a land slide, as she out-threw teammate Holly Bollinger by more than 30 feet."I am happy with that because it has been consistent," said Remaley on her throw of 109 feet, one inch. "I am definitely working up to my goal of 118. That is the school record."Remaley wasn't too pleased with her winning throw of 38 feet, 11-and-a-half inches in the shot put, but did say that she is on track to get back to states and improve on last year's results."The season is going very well," Remaley said. "My goal is to eventually place at states this year, so as of now it is going really well."Also having good days for the Indians were Sarah Keer (javelin - first, 200 and shot put - second), Kasaundra Barclay (100 and javelin - second, 200 - third), Maris Stern (100 and 300 hurdles - first, 1600 relay - first) and Durishin (high jump - first, long jump and triple jump - second). The boys' side belonged solely to Pleasant Valley. Senior thrower Dakota Everett led the charge with two first-place finishes and one second-place finish.Everett won the shot put and discus with throws of 43 feet, three inches and 116 feet, seven inches respectively. He also took second in the javelin with a throw of 131 feet, ten inches."The shot put went alright," said Everett. "I know there is a lot of stuff I can improve on. I feel like my form is my downfall, mainly in the discus. The only reason I throw far is probably because of my size. If I had technique I think I could really get it out there."Jack Wathen also won two events for the Bears. Once again he won the 400-meter (53.04) and 800-meter races (2:06.93).The fastest man of the day belonged to Lehighton though. Despite running with a sore knee, Monty Williams won both of the sprints with times of 11.15 and 22.95 seconds."Today was an okay day for me," said Williams. "My knee was a little bit banged up, but I had a good start - which I usually don't have. Still, I think I could have run both of them a little faster."I can still work on my starts. They are my weakest part right now. I think if I can have a decent start and at least keep up with everybody else for the first ten meters then I could probably shave a good three-tenths off of my times."GIRLSLehighton 95, Pleasant Valley 55100 - 1.
