Panthers, Bulldogs get first baseball wins

Panther Valley picked up its first baseball win of the season and Marian snuck past Weatherly in Schuylkill League baseball action.

The Panthers scored three runs in the sixth inning to down the Golden Bears in six innings by a 13-1 score.

Mark Williams and Colton Black each had two hits and two RBI's for Panther Valley (1-7). Jake Szczecina also had two hits.

Luke Stano picked up the win.

Northern Lehigh rallied for three runs in the seventh inning for a come-from-behind to score a 10-9 non-conference victory over Pius X.

Travis Nelmes led the Bulldogs with two singles, a double and two runs scored, while Eli Oswald added two singles and two runs scored.

Teammates Dan Dailey (two singles, RBI) and Kris Seiler (two singles, three runs scored, RBI) contributed to the Bulldogs' first win of the season.

Northern Lehigh moves to 1-7 on the season.

In a continued game in the bottom of the fourth inning of a rain out the other day, Pete Baddick scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to lift Marian to a 8-7 Schuylkill League victory over visiting Weatherly.

Frank Nitez led the Colts with three singles and two RBIs, while Justin Bilka added a single, double and a run scored. Teammate Nick Kweder chipped in with two singles, two RBIs and a run scored.

Kevin Hinkle sparked the Wreckers with three singles and two runs scored, while Rob Hinkle recorded a single, double, two runs scored a RBI. Teammate Brian Maiwello contributed a single, home run and a three RBIs.

Marian improves to 2-3 overall, while Weatherly slips to 1-5.

Palmerton used strong performances from its two and three singles players to earn a narrow, 3-2 win over Salisbury in Colonial League play.

Spencer Shigo and Kevin Dayton picked up singles wins for the Bombers.

Tony Gardo and Rich Roselli added wins in doubles.

Panther Valley-Mahanoy Area

Mahanoy Area rode a dominant pitching performance along with timely hitting en route to an 8-0 Schuylkill League win over Panther Valley.

Senior Ashley Hullihan went the distance for Mahanoy and held the Lady Panthers to one hit. Desiree Malacusky went 3-for-4 in the win.

The Fillies grabbed a 7-2 win over Nativity in Schuylkill League softball, improving to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the league.

Despite trailing 2-0 early on, Marian regained the lead in the top of the fourth and never looked back. Abbey Hill and Bryianna Pearson both had two hits, a RBI and scored a run each, while teammates Gabby Cann and Lindsay Nemeth both had two hits apiece, as well.

Meanwhile, Megan Parobeck and Erin Luckenbill both had a double and a single in the losing effort.

Pleasant Vy.-Stroudsburg

Pleasant Valley rolled to a 13-3 victory over Stroudsburg.

Alyssa Kotzmann, Shannon Lozier and Taylor Steckel all had two hits for the Bears. Jenna Scheller struck out five and earned the pitching victory.

Pleasant Vy.-ES North

Pleasant Valley defeated East Stroudsburg North, 12-2.

Alyssa Kotzmann and Carissa DeSimone hit home runs for the Bears. Jenna Scheller and Melissa Long combined for the pitching win.
