Lehighton Rotary, Pool Pals hosting fund raisers

Lehighton Rotary Club and Lehighton Area Pool Pals are once again teaming up to host the annual Community Indoor Yard Sale and Chinese Auction on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lehighton Recreation Center, 243 South Eighth Street in Lehighton. Refreshments will also be available for purchase.

All proceeds from the event will benefit community programs of the two organizations."We are happy to partner with Pool Pals for this community fundraiser," said Lehighton Rotary Club Past President Erica Heery. "It shows how organizations can work together to help make the world a better place.""The synergy and working partnership exhibited between the two groups is outstanding," added Lehighton Area Pool Pals President Mark Hoffman. "Both organizations work cooperatively together for the common goal of helping others in our community."Those who donate at least one non-perishable food item at the Community Indoor Yard Sale and Chinese Auction will be given a free door prize ticket. Without the food donation, the participation fee for the door prize raffle is $1 per ticket. All of these donations will be given to the community food pantry at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lehighton, a division of Shepherd House, Inc.Tickets will also be available at the event for the upcoming Elvis tribute show on Saturday, June 1 at Lehighton American Legion - featuring award-winning Elvis tribute artist Jeff Krick. All proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the community programs of Lehighton Rotary Club.Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs worldwide. Rotarians are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto "Service Above Self."Locally, Lehighton Rotary Club organized in 1921. Community programs of the club include distributing dictionaries to all third grade students in both Lehighton and Palmerton Area School Districts; donating brand new scales to Blue Mountain Home Health Care for patients in the Visiting Nurses' Program who are in need of this assistance; the annual Essay Contest for Lehighton Area High School students that reinforces the importance of community service; presenting scholarships to LAHS students to attend RYLA - Rotary Youth Leadership Assembly - to develop and strengthen leadership skills; and forming an Interact Club at LAHS that is designed to help enhance students' leadership skills, personal integrity, and respect for all.Lehighton Area Pool Pals is a non-profit community organization that raised approximately $135,000 to renovate the Lehighton Swimming Pool at Baer Memorial Park. After several summer seasons closed, the pool reopened in 2009 - thanks to the efforts of this organization.
