Financial aid

The Tamaqua Area School District will sponsor a Financial Aid Night on Jan. 8 in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium. The informational session will begin at 6 p.m. and will include a review of the 2012-2013 Financial Aid form as well as general financial aid information. Junior and senior class students interested in pursuing any form of post-secondary education, and their parents, are welcome to attend.No pre-registration is required. The session is open to the public.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery and primary church are offered during the later service. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministries meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician practice at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9:30 a.m.YMCA newsThe Tamaqua YMCA will host its annual Midnight Madness Dodge Ball Tournament on Jan. 11 and is now accepting applications for the Youth Basketball Clinic. The clinic will begin Jan. 13.Joining fees will be waived for the month of January.For more information on any Y activity, call 570-668-2903.Seniors newsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens group has found a new meeting place, following the sale of the Tamaqua Community Center.Beginning Jan. 10, 2013, the club will meet at the Masonic Temple on SR54 in Hometown.Last week's meeting was attended by 77 members, with one new member, Jim Sloboda, welcomed to the club. The business session was conducted by vice president Nancy Gerber. Reports were presented by Gerber and secretary Joan Anne Garber.Tom Hanlon was added to the sick list.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.
