Most folks in our area fell asleep last night to the drumroll of torrential rain on the roof.

Fortunately, the temperature stayed well above freezing, sparing Carbon and Schuylkill counties hazardous ice or a heavy, wet blanket of snow. However, some higher elevations, such as Summit Hill, saw a dusting of snow last night before the rains came down.The downpour flooded some roads, and brisk winds last night brought down branches.The wet weather is expected to wane today, with cloudy skies and temperatures hovering in the mid-40s, according to the National Weather Service. Night time temperatures will be in the low 20s starting tonight, and colder-than-normal temperatures are expected to last throughout the week.NWS forecasts high winds, up to 45 mph, developing this afternoon and continuing through Saturday, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph Saturday afternoon.There is a 40 percent chance of snow on Saturday, and a clear day on Sunday.Christmas Eve and Christmas Day forecasts call for partly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-30s, according to NWS forecasts.In western Pennsylvania, NWS is forecasting up to a foot of snow to fall in some areas today. Near blizzard conditions are raging in parts of Michigan and northern Indiana as a storm moves along the Canadian border.
