Marines, volunteers fill more than 500 bags with new toys

Members and volunteers with the Schuylkill Carbon Marine Corps League Detachment 626 are spending time this week organizing, separating and filling more than 500 bags of toys in preparation for the holiday Toys For Tots distribution.

"Children need to have a good Christmas," said volunteer Cheryl Laub, 10-year Toys For Tots coordinator for the League.About 25 volunteers were seen sorting through tables of donated toys Tuesday evening. Laub estimated that they will be helping more than 50 families receive gifts this year. This number doesn't include an additional 350 Tamaqua children who will also benefit from Toys For Tots. Some of the volunteers helping the Marines during the toy sorting and bagging included members of the Salem Bible Fellowship Church in Lehighton, Black Diamond Parrot Head Club of Summit Hill, Panther Valley National Honor Society, Lehighton Girl and Boy Scouts and others.
