Black ice cause of Schuylkill crash

Black ice on a Schuylkill County road was the cause of a one-vehicle crash. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred about 6:37 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, along SR209 in Frailey Township.

Troopers said Michael S. Smith, 40, of Lebanon, was driving a 2002 Ford truck and crossing over a bridge that spans Interstate 81, when the vehicle began to slid due to the black ice.The truck struck the traffic median off the southbound lane, spun counter-clockwise, and rolled over onto the drivers' side. The truck came to rest in the left lane on its side.Smith was injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville. The truck had to be towed from the scene.
