Ben Salem offers Christmas cantata this weekend

U.C.C. in Lehighton will offer their annual Christmas cantata on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 10:30 a.m. This year's cantata will be "Thou Shall Call His Name … Jesus," a Christmas choral celebration by Lanny Wolfe, Bob Benson and Don Marsh.The cantata will take the place of Ben Salem's traditional Sunday worship service. All are welcome to attend."Thou Shall Call His Name … Jesus" tells the familiar Christmas story through song and dialogue.The performance will feature a narrator, musical selections and a live stage performance depicting the coming and birth of Jesus."The choir is singing, and there will be actors as well to tell the Christmas story," said Adele Kunkle, the church organist and choir director, who will accompany the choir on keyboard. The cantata will be directed by Audrey Milan."It's very entertaining. It's part traditional, part contemporary, with lots of upbeat songs," said Kunkle. "The senior choir has a reputation for having good music programs."She noted that the senior choir has been offering a cantata each Christmas for more than 30 years."It is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit. It's a fun way to celebrate the coming of Christ into our hearts and into our lives," she said.Ben Salem
