In the mood for some slapstick comedy?

That's exactly what one can expect when the Palmerton High School Drama Club performs the play GET SMART! tonight at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5, and there will be a 15 minute intermission with refreshments available.Brent Harris, Drama coach, said the premise of the play is that an evil organization known as KAOS plans to steal a newly developed weapon known as the inthermo. Maxwell Smart and several other agents are given the task of tracking down the stolen weapon and ensuring the safety of the world, said Harris, who added that in order to do that, they are equipped with classic items such as the shoe-phone, as well as some brand new gadgets."Of course, in classic Get Smart style, there are many mishaps and wacky adventures along the way," Harris said. "The play is based on the 1960s television show, and much of its plot line is pulled from the first two episodes of the show."Harris said the cast consists of over 25 students from the both the high school and junior high school.The main characters are as follows: Maxwell Smart (secret agent for CONTROL), portrayed by Ben Winn; Agent 99 (Smart's assistant), Michayla Doherty; Chief (head of CONTROL), Ricky Getz; Mr. Big (head of KAOS), Nathan Goodhile; Garth (KAOS agent), Henry Marin Jr.; Princess Ingrid (blue-eyed blonde), Savannah Mickel; Agent 44 (CONTROL agent), Ryan Penberg; Professor Dante (scientist), Craig Peters; Professor Zalinka (Dante's assistant), Carolann Green; Miss Finch (Chief's secretary), Jaclyn Wood; Hodgkins (Chief's assistant), Alex Mammarello; Mary Wong (KAOS agent), Amy Hudock; Shirley Wong (KAOS agent), Kylee Tirado; and Betsy Wong (KAOS agent), Erika Hudock.Harris said "the level of interest for a production has not been this high in the last four years.""Each rehearsal gets better and better, and the students have really taken to the comedy and wit contained within the show," he said. "On top of this, we have seen a tremendous level of interest from the staff and students within the school, and are very excited for what looks to be a strong turnout for [tonight's] show."Harris added "the goal of this year's fall production is to utilize our newly renovated auditorium to achieve a higher level of polish and professionalism.""The district has provided us with an opportunity to work with a state-of-the-art set up, and to incorporate a new lighting system, a new curtain system, and a new sound system into our production," he said. "We hope to make the best of this opportunity, as well as to increase our attendance, and continually excite our audiences for our upcoming productions."Harris said the Drama Club will also collect new or like new toys at the door to donate to the Union Township, NJ Santa in Blue project through the Aquashicola Fire Company.The toys will be given to children in families that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy. In addition to the toys, cleaning supplies, hygiene products, diapers, and canned goods will also be accepted, he said.The Drama Club, as well as the high school FBLA, will combine their collections as one donation, Harris said.
