Lehighton councilman hosting meeting for youths tomorrow

A member of Lehighton Borough Council is interested in how youths in the community feel about their town.

As a result, a special meeting with the councilman, in which input is invited from youths, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Lehighton Municipal Building.Councilman George Kogut said seven pastors of Lehighton area churches have indicated they will bring youth group members to tomorrow's session. He stressed that the meeting is open for all youths; not just those affiliated with church organizations. He said the meeting is scheduled for 1 1/2 hours and any topic the youths want to talk about can be discussed."We're hoping for a lot of kids," said Kogut. "I'm hoping they open up. There's no topic that can't be discussed."One priority of Kogut is for improved recreational facilities in the community, including lights and basketball courts at Baer Memorial Park and the organization of a summer basketball league at the Community Grove.Kogut, in his efforts to reach out to community members, is also hosting the second Economic Summit meeting for Lehighton area business owners and employees at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14.A newly-formed parking committee is expected to give a report at the session, which will be held in the municipal building. Of primary concern for the committee is parking in the downtown business district. The first such summit was held last month.
