Blue Oyster Cult performing Friday evening at Penn's Peak

There's quite a lineup of entertainment this weekend at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe.

Blue Öyster Cult, the hard rock/heavy metal band listed by VH1 as one of the greatest hard rock bands of all times, will be performing at 8 p.m. on Friday.On Saturday night, The Lettermen will bring their Christmas tour to the venue for a show at 8 p.m.Sunday at 7 p.m., Grammy Award nominee Ernie Haase and Signature Sound, who have performed at Billy Graham Crusades, make their Penn's Peak debut bringing a concert of Christmas music.Blue Oyster CultFor nearly four decades, Blue Oyster Cult has been thrilling rock fans worldwide with powerful albums loaded with classic songs.Based in Long Island, the band is revered within the hard rock and heavy metal scene for its pioneering work.Blue Oyster Cult occupies a unique place in rock history because it is one of very few hard rock/heavy metal bands to earn both genuine mainstream critical acclaim as well as commercial success.The band is often cited as a major influence by other acts such as Metallica.Upon the release of Blue Oyster Cult's self-titled debut album in 1972, the band was praised for its catchy-yet-heavy music and lyrics that could be provocative, terrifying, funny, or ambiguous, often all in the same song.For the nearly four decades they have been around, BÖC can claim to have some powerful albums loaded with classic songs. "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," "Godzilla" and "Burnin' For You" are just three of their many classic tracks.Tickets for this concert are $27 in advance and $32 on the day of the concert.The LettermenWho hasn't heard of the world famous The Lettermen?The Lettermen are Tony Butala, Donovan Tea and Bobby Poynton.Butala started this group over 50 years ago with their first appearance at the Desert Inn Hotel Resort Showroom in Las Vegas, Nevada in February 1958.Their sound is a cross between big band vocal groups (The Modernaires, Pied Pipers) and early R&B rock groups (Ink Spots, Flamingos and The Platters).The Lettermen were established as the most romantic singing group of the 60's. The band began garnering all kinds of hit records. They had over 25 hit singles in the 60's and 70's.They've toured with the likes of George Burns, Jack Benny and Bill Cosby, appearing on televisions The Ed Sullivan Show, The Red Skelton Show and Dick Clark's American Bandstand and still making time for interviews and performances with Johnny Carson, Merv Griffin and Dinah Shore.The Lettermen have enjoyed international success, have recorded in 14 languages and received 18 gold records internationally."Christmas With the Lettermen," a CD featuring such classics as "What Child is This," "Away in a Manger," and "Deck the Halls," was released in 1997 and continues to be a big seller at the holiday season for Amazon.com.Tickets for this special event at Penn's Peak are $27 and $32.Ernie Haase & Signature SoundFor 10 years, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound have been touring with world renowned Bill Gaither.They have traveled throughout the world and have been dubbed "Ambassadors of Joy" across Europe.Haase said his band is labeled a gospel band, but the all-Christmas concert Sunday at Penn's Peak will have both Christian and secular tunes.You'll probably hear such classics as "Silent Night," but you'll also hear Haase sing classic hits by Burl Ives, Elvis Presley, and other top artists.Plus, Haase provides a helping of many other secular tunes.Ernie, the group's founder and leader, began his career with the famous Cathedral Quartet. The Cathedral Quartet ended a five decade run in the music industry, but Ernie's passion was so deep for gospel music he had to keep going.Tickets for this special performance are just $20 and $25.
