A Carbon County woman was sentenced to a state prison term on Friday in the county court after previously being convicted of identity theft.

Judge Joseph J. Matika sentenced Patricia Gadaleta, 52, formerly of Lehighton, to serve a total of 24 to 90 months in a state prison on charges of identity theft and forgery.On July 17 a jury convicted Gadaleta of two of six counts filed against her by state police at Lehighton.Matika, before imposing sentence, called Gadaleta a con woman who uses other people by deceit to get money.Gadaleta was charged in an incident that occurred during the time frame of January to July 2010. Troopers said Gadaleta opened a checking/saving account with the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union using the Social Security number of her sister, Elaine Bieniakowski, of Waterford, N.J., under the name of E.L. Galletta.She was accused of depositing three checks to the account in various amounts with all being returned for either being on closed accounts or other reasons. Prior to the return of the checks she made withdrawals from the account.In addition to the jail term, Matika ordered Gadaleta to supply a DNA sample, make total restitution of $2,830.48, get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, have no contact with the victim, and not be allowed to open a bank account of any kind.She was given credit for 631 days spent in jail to date on the charges.Gadaleta still has about three more criminal cases pending against her in Carbon. Those cases stem from the purchase of dogs using an alleged alias name and not paying for them.She also has charges pending in another county.
