Unusual instruments topic at Tamaqua Community Arts Center

Have you ever heard a strange sound in a piece of music and wondered what instrument made it?

Well, warm up you Crumhorns, Sackbuts and Theremins for an evening of great music for unusual instruments. This is the second in the music appreciation series offered by the Tamaqua Community Arts Center, Pine St. in Tamaqua on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m.The audience will hear instruments that trace their beginning back thousands of years to modern times. There will be folk instruments from various cultures to orchestra instruments from by gone days. There will also be a section of well-known instruments used in ways not usually thought of.Barry Gangwer is the presenter of the program and will supplement the music with pictures of each instrument. You will be surprised at the shapes, sizes and sound of these unusual instruments. The Nativity story will also be presented in music.
