Student performances and a hearty meal will once again highlight the Senior Citizen Holiday Program, to be held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Slatington Elementary.Lori Middaugh, co-event organizer, said "the goal of this year's event is to have as many as last year, if not more, senior citizens join us to enjoy a morning filled with children singing, reading poetry, telling jokes, and listening to music to start their Christmas season with happiness."As part of the program, Middaugh said students in grades 3-6 will perform songs, poems, and jokes. The fifth and sixth grade band's will perform as well, as will the high school choir "Treblemakers", she said."The students truly enjoy performing for the senior citizens because they experience seeing what they are doing makes the seniors happy and full of joy for the holiday season," Middaugh said. "This is also the reason the entire school commits to this program."Middaugh said each child's family has been asked to donate a dozen cookies, which are packaged for all of the senior residents from the facilities in Slatington.
