The bay of the Citizen's Fire Company of Middleport was turned into a donation warehouse as firefighters, volunteers and community members spent the last few days sorting, counting, folding, bagging, boxes and stagin over a hundred thousand donations collected by the fire company and area volunteers for hurricane victims in New York and New Jersey.

"There has been a great overflow of support from local businesses and community members," said organizer Todd Amos, President, Citizen's Fire Company of Middleport. "I can't say enough about all the support I received from the community."He added that some donators drove about two hours to donate items for their donation collection."In addition, about 30 local volunteers from Schuylkill, Carbon and surrounding counties also showed after reading the story it in the TIMES NEWS," added Amos.He also stated his appreciation to area groups and businesses for donating or helping in the collections. Some mentioned were Pioneer Pole Buildings, who donated a box truck; Tamaqua Volunteers group, who donated over 100 boxes and bags of clothing and household items; Wayward Animal Rescue, who donated over 1,000 pounds of animal food and supplies; Wal-Mart; Home Depot; International Paper; Drom-A-Deli; Kaytee Products and so on.Later today and over the next few days, volunteers will be filling a large tractor trailer with all these donations to be delivered to hurricane victims.
