Judging Peace posters in Tamaqua

ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS Volunteers and members of the Tamaqua Lions Club spent time judging Peace Posters on display at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center. The posters were drawn by students from both the St. Jerome's and Tamaqua elementary schools. Each year, Lions clubs around the world sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. During the last 20 years, more than four million children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest. Students, ages 11, 12 or 13 were eligible to participate. Winners will be awarded at a later date. Judges pictured from left are Leona Rega, center director, Tamaqua Community Arts Center; Tamaqua Lions Club President Brian Keich, Tamaqua LEO Club advisor Sue Dolan, Lion Wendy Gerber and Lion Steve Bayer.
