Nesquehoning crash

A Jim Thorpe man was injured when his pickup truck left SR54 in the Hauto area of Nesquehoning Thursday morning and crashed into a utility pole, sheering it off. Borough police said Charles Barron, 66, was driving a Toyota Tacoma when it left the road and hit the pole along the eastbound lane. The crash occurred about 10:51 a.m. Barron was trapped in the vehicle due to wires laying across his truck and his legs being pinned in the wreckage. Emergency personnel had to cut away a portion of the truck to free Barron. PPL personnel stabilized the wires and pole during the incident. He was freed about 12:30 p.m. and then flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. The road was closed for several hours until Barron was freed, and the wreckage and pole removed. New Columbus, Hauto and Nesquehoning fire companies responded. The investigation into the crash is continuing.
